We were at Jaleo in September 2012. I am a Spaniard (from Valencia), my husband German and my son American-Spanish-German. In this order :). We live in California, but we were watching Jose's "Made in Spain" for years on PBS. I got the books for mother's day! We couldn't skip the opportunity the first (and only) time that we were in DC. My son was 12 at the time. We loved everything! even if I had been cooking lots of the recipes for years. oh! That white sangria!! Would love to go again! Now my son is 22 and we treasure those moments. Also love WCK work, and I am a big supporter.

Happy anniversary and to many more!

Jaleo was my home for many years! As a host, then server at both Jaleo Bethesda and Jaleo Downtown, I met some of the most influential people in my life while working there. I will forever be grateful for the lessons I learned and the friends I made while working at Jaleo. Jaleo is a must-visit any time I'm in DC or Vegas because it always feels like home. Cheers, Chef!

I have never been to one of ur restaurants but it is on my bucket list. We travel to Spain every couple of years since I was 5 yrs old. My dad was an incredible cook famous for his paella’s, tapas, sangria, empanadas, caldo, the night of 7 fishes and my favorite gallos. I lost him in 1990, but still think of him everyday. I follow you here and James blick in Madrid. I have many sites of Spain that I follow. You will always be our favorite chef and I wish my father had met you - he would have bursted with his famous Spanish pride. God bless u and ur family, especially your wife n daughters. I love the video with you cooking with 1 of ur daughters. Love u andres and thank you from all of us!!

Después de las sandeces que escribiste sobre José y su ONG y que no aparecían por Valencia, no creo que seas bien recibida. Antes de hablar y denigrar gratuitamente a alguien lee, ignorante

Congratulations! I've been a Maryland fan of your restaurants for decades, and am more recently a huge fan of your humanitarian efforts. At Jaleo, in its early days, I had the first Sangria drink that I ever truly loved. When you pulled out of the Trump hotel in DC, I made a point of eating in one of your places that day. Thank you for the quality of your restaurants and for your global work.

I was lucky to stay with a host family while studying Spanish in Granada after my junior year in high school and my host mom was the sweetest! She had been told Americans eat milk and cereal for breakfast, and so even though I didn’t like cereal or milk (I grew up with skim milk which while better for you is a waste of the few calories it has flavor-wise) I ate the cereal every day for two months, I didn’t have the heart to tell her. But I do remember the gazpacho she made and put in a very small high-walled glass when I would come back from class for a siesta — it was so refreshing and I had never had a savory cold drink like that before. Someday maybe I will try it at Jaleo, but I still think I will always remember that gazpacho as the best :-) .

I have been dining at Jaleo for 20+ years since I was introduced to it by a DC colleague. I was in town for a meeting and he took a group of us there. It was love at first bite! Since then, every time I go to DC (at least once a year), Jaleo is my first restaurant stop. I have dined at other Jose Andres DC restaurants, love them all, however, my favorite will always be Jaleo!

What’s not to love?!! Semester abroad in Spain turned into a lifelong love for everything Spanish (except my husband!)... Spanish teacher who fostered an exchange program w students and learned how to make paella and tapas and tortilla de patatas, to travel, walking the Camino, and following and supporting your unwavering apoyo for humankind. I met you and saw you speak at the Lancaster Theological Seminary, held fundraisers and donated to the amazing WCK, and watched you share your love for your patria on your series with your beautiful girls in Spain! I am headed to Jaleo in DC on Thursday evening as the highlight of my Spring Break! This teacher has an idea for even longer tables for you!! Contacting TFGroup. ¡Buen provecho!!!

I worked at Jaleo as a server then a bartender from 1996-1999 when I moved back to Massachusetts as a manager to open Austin Grill in Cambridge. I worked with the most amazing people at Jaleo and it's still my favorite among many work places! I have enjoyed watching your career Jose and am so proud to have worked with you. Keep doing all the good work you do! Warmest Regards, "Yen"

Jose - Jaleo is a very special restaurant for my wife and I. One of our first dates in 1998, while we lived in DC, was at Jaleo and that date led to a wonderful marriage of 21 years and counting and three amazing kids (15,13,9). We now live in Atlanta, but every time we go back to DC, we always go to Jaleo to create more memories. I took my 13 year old to Jaleo last year during a father/daughter trip. And my wife is taking all our kids there tonight as they visit DC (unfortunately, I am back in Atlanta due to knee surgery). Thank you so incredibly much for taking that interview, moving to DC and giving our family a Jaleo in our life. Wade V. (Atlanta, GA)

I've dined at the 7th Street Jaleo for many years (well before the renovated bathrooms became a discussion topic!), and it is STILL one of my very favorite restaurants (was most recently there just this past Sunday). I (and pretty much all DC residents) also wholly support your policy and political stances (it was a real treat seeing you and Tony Bourdain at Oyamel a few weeks before the 2016 presidential election, telling a funny story about your meeting Sting in LA and singing to him "I'm an alien, I'm a legal alien, I'm a Spanishman in LA") and was ecstatic when you finally got to open Bazaar in the Waldorf Astoria. For all of your WCK work and other humanitarian efforts and even your changing the Ensaladilla Rusa dish's name to Ensaladilla Ucraniana, we are incredibly fortunate to have you in this world. Happy 30th Anniversary, Chef.

Hi Jose, Patrick here from los buenos tiempos de Cafe Atlantico y Jaleo. I went to the pre opening of Jaleo with a group of Spanish friends who also frequented Cafe Atlantico every weekend. It was a great night and we knew Jaleo was destined for greatness! I’m proud of you and all you are doing! un abrazo, Patrick

I have gone to Jaleo ever since it opened. Used to go regularly after working nearby. Love you all but still have not forgiven the addition of fennel to the manchego & apple !

In 2001, after a L'Enfant Plaza area team presentation, our lead asked where she could take us for a celebratory lunch. I recommended the 7th St. Jaleo because I'd eaten there numerous times. We all piled into cabs, but on the way I had second thoughts. This team had assembled from around the US, and I worried they wouldn't understand what we were about to get into.

And then the guy with endangered species cowboy boots saw the menu and bellowed his delight: He hadn't had octopus since he'd lived in Japan. The guy with the bolo tie dove for the cod croquetas. Others similarly surprised me.

I think about that lunch often when I make assumptions about others' tastes and habits. I was the one who got schooled that day, and I still got to have an amazing lunch.

Love ya, love what you do with WCK, and I look forward to another 30 years of learning what longer tables really mean.
