Thanks for the outstanding history I started learning Spanish in grade school & have worked & traveled Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, given speeches at International conferences with other universities. It has been an honor & joy.
What an interesting story, Jose! I'm not going to get to see the paintings in person but will look on the internet.
San Francisco's Legion of Honor has a show right now that I did see-John Singer Sargent in Spain. Let's me just say WOW! Many of the spectacular paintings were of the south of Spain, Seville, Granada etc. and brought me back to wanting to return. He happened to be a student of Valesquez, after the painter's death of course, but learned his style and it shows in his work.
I am inspired by the way you used what you learned to create a menu Juan de Pareja would understand and relate to. It sounds delicious too!
Interesting story but must relay meaningful experience. Ate at and met Al at Big Al’s Deli in Nashville where a World Central Kitchen poster hung proudly on door. He said how without WCK he would not have survived the pandemic. He said he loves serving his community. A passionate man just like Jose.
Thank you for this very interesting story!

What beautiful dishes - appropriate to honor such an artist!
Perfect selection of dishes
Fine article, but at one paragraph seems to suggest that Zurbarán, Murillo and Velázquez were Moorish or African. You may want to clarify that.
Excepcional! Thank you 😍
I think you created a perfect meal for the exhibition
I so much wish I was in NY to maybe help you with the lunch, but certainly to see this glorious exhibit!
