As you discuss food insecurity, please also add to the agenda food deserts in our urban areas, partnering to create urban farms on vacant lots, the price of fresh food compared with the price of fast food and food at corner bodegas. And, food for the elderly Thanks for all you do!!

This is a start but like you say, action is what we need. I am also optimistic but also realistic about Corporate greed being a major problem. When only a few shape the world because of their position and their influence on politicians, it is difficult thing to overcome and change. I support your efforts wholeheartedly but don’t shy away from difficult conversations and calling out the real problems.

Dear Jose Andres, please let us substackers know what we can do to help spread the word about this important food conference. I'm always struck by how vulnerable we all really are. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs comes to mind. At the base, in order just to survive, we all need food, water, safety and shelter. Every human being on earth needs these basics! That leads to love and belonging, which leads to self-esteem and self-actualization - thriving! In "It's a Wonderful Life," George Bailey confronts the uncaring capitalist Mr. Potter with this: This rabble you’re talking about, they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath?" To which I would add, "Is it too much for countries to ensure that everyone be afforded the basic sustenance of life?" When capitalism snuffs out our humanity, when the rich think of the poor as "rabble," when a president chides hurricane riven Puerto Ricans, saying "I hate to tell you, Puerto Rico, but you've thrown our budget a little out of whack," then we have lost our humanity, full stop. Until we see each other as "la familia del mundo" then unnecessary suffering and hunger will persist. Joe Biden gives me hope. Jose Andres, you give me hope. That too, is a basic need. Muchas gracias.
