A Year Together! To celebrate, a first look at the WCK Cookbook…!
A look back, and a look ahead
Hello my friends!
I can hardly believe it, but we are nearing the end of our first year together, and the beginning of another! It has been 52 weeks of us here every week, talking about food, about culture, about history, about family. You’ve asked me questions, you’ve shared your favorite recipes, you’ve told me about your travels to Spain and around the world. We shared memories of Jaleo and my old friend Anthony Bourdain.
Because of subscribers like YOU, we have been able to accomplish so much over the last year. I have been proud to share with you my podcast, where I’ve had amazing conversations with some of the smartest and most interesting people in the world…Stacey Abrams, Eva Longoria, Jane Goodall, and more. I could share stories about my journeys with my daughters around Spain, which we turned into a fun, crazy TV show. I’ve been able to share behind the scenes videos of the work we do in our R&D kitchen, and the secrets of Spanish cooking. And of course…I’ve been able to tell you so many stories right here at Longer Tables!
And my friends, I am proud to tell you that since Day 1, because of YOU, we have together donated $20,000 to World Central Kitchen. In the last 365 days, WCK has been on the ground in Ukraine, Türkiye, Syria, the American South, California, Chile, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Panama, and well beyond—four continents, more than 25 countries, and hundreds of millions of meals, all because of your direct help and support.
Now that we are a year in, you might ask: what more could we possibly talk about?!? Well people, if you know me, you know that I will never run out of things I am thinking about! The next few months will be some of the most exciting I have ever seen. Last week we announced the new Global Food Institute at George Washington University, which will bring together the smartest minds in the food world and beyond. In a few weeks we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Jaleo—if you’re in DC, maybe you can join for the party. In September, we are releasing the first WCK cookbook…and there’s another WCK project this fall that I can’t say too much about yet, but you will be very excited when you hear about it! I’ll also be able to share previews of my next cookbook all about Zaytinya, and down the road more book projects!
And if you want a little preview of the WCK book, see below…the first recipe of many! One version of Ukraine’s famous Borsch that we have served on the ground.
So amigos. Thank you for being here, helping us all create a longer and longer table. I am so grateful for what you have shared with me over the last year, and I’m so excited for what we have to come.
Oh…and as promised, here’s a little peak at the WCK cookbook! I hope you’re getting as excited as I am!
