Hi friends,
You didn’t hear from me here last week, and it might take me a few weeks to get back to sharing stories and recipes here. You might have seen the news, but last Monday, my World Central Kitchen team was attacked after making a food delivery in the north of Gaza. Seven members of the team were killed. It was an incredibly tough week, you might imagine.
If you want to read more about what I’ve written and said about the incident and the aftermath, please take a look at my New York Times oped, and the statements that World Central Kitchen has released on their website. WCK has created a fund for the families of our team members—if you want to consider a contribution, please visit here. This collective effort is in addition to WCK’s contributions to the families and aims to help with some of the financial hardships their families may face as they navigate life without their beloved family members.
I’ll be back here soon. In the meantime, keep your loved ones close.
My heart aches for the families, for everyone at WCK, and for you, Chef. Be well. Be gentle with yourself. You have brought so much good to the world.
Dear Jose,
I'm so pleased to hear you are taking time for yourself. You need to protect your own mental and emotional health. So many people the world over rely on your example, stewardship, love for a joyous life, and showing us all another way to live-by embracing longer tables, of course!
I look forward to your return when you are ready and in the meantime, I am holding you and all the WCK family in my heart. You are angels of mercy and agents of peace.
Love!!
Ellen
