The drive to win...a conversation with a legendary rally driver
Live from Las Vegas! Me and legendary rally driver, Carlos Sainz Sr.
Picture this: You’re driving off road through the desert. You hit a bump, go flying through the air, and crash. A medical helicopter arrives to take you to the hospital. What do you do?
If you’re Carlos Sainz Sr., you insist they take you back so you can keep driving.
This man is a legend. And for good reason. Known as El Matador in Spain, Carlos has driven 96 rallies, hit the podium 97 times, and clocked 26 wins. You may also have heard of his son: Carlos Sainz, Jr, who drives for Ferrari in Formula 1.
I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Carlos when I was recently in Las Vegas. And he was kind enough to sit down with me at my restaurant Jaleo there to tape a live podcast with me. We talked about his drive to win and, yeah, because I’m me, about what he eats when he’s driving for two weeks in the middle of nowhere. And yeah, because I’m me, I offered up a few ideas for how to improve the menu!
And it turns out this conversation is pretty news-worthy. Just this past weekend, Carlos won the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia — the one he was earlier forced to quit. This man does not give up. And I love that!
I hope you’ll listen in and let me know what you think!
