Rice on Rice
Ambassador Susan E. Rice pulls back the curtain on her storied career, one that’s illustrious even in Washington
If you know anything about me, it’s that I hate planning. This is why I am so excited to have with me on Longer Tables a woman who also prioritizes getting things done: Ambassador Susan Rice.
I’m sure you know all about Ambassador Rice. How could you not? She has held some of the most important jobs in Washington: Assistant Secretary of State. National Security Advisor. Ambassador to the UN. And most recently, a job she left earlier this year, as head of the White House Domestic Policy Council for President Biden.
Even before she was shaping history, her family was doing it, too. Her mother and her father have fascinating legacies you might not know about.
Susan and I worked together last year on the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. It was the first one in 50 years, and way overdue on my opinion. So on this show we talked about what we were able to achieve there. But we also discussed many other essential issues that are facing our country: how to move forward on affirmative action, in light of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling; how to resolve crushing student debt.
Ambassador Rice has ideas—and strategies about how to make them a reality. As I said, she is the very best kind of policymaker.
Listen in. And please let us know what you think in the comments! Change only happens when everyone gets involved. And I know my Longer Tables family includes some of the smartest, most empathetic citizens. I want to hear what you think.
Excellent interview! You are both so well informed and knowledgeable.
