It’s the very last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, people! But we are still celebrating at Longer Tables. Today I want to share with you a podcast I recorded last week in Washington, D.C. with the only and the one, Pati Jinich.
If you don’t know Pati, let’s fix that right now. She is one of the country’s most important ambassadors for Mexican food: Her TV show, Pati’s Mexican Table, is in its 13th season on PBS and she also hosted an AMAZING documentary, La Frontera, that shows the food and culture along the 2,000 mile U.S. border with Mexico. She’s also just the kindest and most thoughtful person. I love being around her.
In my conversation with Pati at George Washington University, we both wrestled with what it means to be a Hispanic American; how living in the very diverse city of Washington has shaped how we think about ourselves and our cooking. She also gave me a master’s thesis on my favorite Mexican dish, Chiles En Nogada.
I want to give a very special thank you to State Farm, who sponsored the Hispanic Heritage Month event. Thank you for being a good neighbor!
Jose, excellent podcast as always. To see things through both of your eyes what being an immigrant and a chef in a country such as ours it's fascinating. You always learn something when you share with each other. Your podcasts are always positive in such a negative world we live in it brings Joy, happiness, any chance to experience new dishes or try new recipes. Thank you for always being true to the man you are. The culture came from, and the people you love. You are the best.
