OK, yes people, I ate too much last week. So many friends and family around (including, before the holiday, the great Jane Goodall, who is on my podcast this week.) And so much food! Maybe you can relate?

This is why I believe that fruit should be served as dessert at the holidays. It keeps it light after an already-heavy meal. And it’s why I especially love this recipe of oranges in red wine. Because in addition to being brightly colored and delicious, it is a great way to use up leftover wine from your holiday party. I like using red wines from Spain wine, of course, like Ribera del Duero or Navarra.

Oranges in Red Wine Syrup

Serves 4

2 cups Spanish red wine

3 tablespoons sugar, plus more to taste
