Marvels of the comic book world
Meet two of my superheroes, Mike Mignola and Steve Orlando
Earlier this month, in this newsletter, I told you about my new graphic novel, Feeding Dangerously, which tells the stories of six World Central Kitchen activations. The book shows what I am always trying to explain in words: the incredible superpowers of a good meal.
Of course, I did not write the book alone. And I certainly did not draw the amazing pictures.
So on the latest episode of my podcast, I spoke to two of the people who did: Steve Orlando, a writer who wrote Batman and Wonder Woman before he wrote José Andrés, and Mike Mignola, the man behind Hellboy and a legend of the comic book world, who drew the book’s special edition cover.
Both of these guys are charming as hell. We talked about all kinds of things, from Anthony Bourdain, a pioneer of the food comic book, to the surprising challenges of drawing a piece of meat and turning one crazy Spanish chef – that’s me! – into a capeless crusader.
As always, if you have a question you want me to answer on the podcast, email my team at longertables@joseandres.com. Gracias!
