Los Angeles: Always in season
LA’s food scene reflects the abundance of Southern California
Hello friends! I hope you enjoyed Carlota’s post from New York a couple of weeks ago…meanwhile, over at Longer Tables, you heard all about a chef on my team, Holly Jivin, who is one of our amazing West Coast R & D chefs. She has been out in LA for 16 years and really knows how to take inspiration from the city’s abundant ingredients and food cultures. A few months ago, I also shared my dear friend Jamie Lee Curtis’ favorite spots in LA. Today, I’m sharing my LA recommendations (and people…I have been traveling in Spain, especially in the south for the Feria of Jerez, so you can look forward to some of my recommendations for the south of Spain coming up shortly! Start planning your summers!)
LA is one of my favorite food cities! One of my first jobs was in La Jolla, just north of San Diego, so I have always loved Southern California. The more I explored, as we built communities around our restaurants, it started feeling a bit more like home. It has a little bit of everything…the freshest ingredients from the best farms, a diverse culinary history, and a willingness to embrace a new trend or a tradition that no one has talked about in a long time.
Things that happen in LA reflect what is happening in the country, and the city itself is so massive. From high end restaurants in Beverly Hills to a food truck serving the best tacos north of Mexico, you’re always going to find something that represents what people are actually eating right now, across the country and the world.
And don’t forget to stop by one of our LA restaurants when you’re in town! If you can find your way to the Conrad in downtown LA, with a view of the amazing Disney Concert Hall, you can enjoy a spicy margarita on the beautiful rooftop patio of Agua Viva, or be transported to Spain with a bit of California at San Laurel. Bazaar will be coming back soon as well…so come make yourself at home!
Now, please join me as I take you on a journey around the City of Angels, to some of my favorite spots.
