“America, you great unfinished symphony, you sent for me! You let me make a difference. A place where even orphan immigrants can leave their fingerprints and rise up.”
That’s right, people of Longer Tables. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the author of those amazing words was on the podcast where it happened: Longer Tables.
Of course, like me, you are probably already a Lin-Manuel superfan. He is the genius behind the musicals “Hamilton,” “In the Heights,” and the composer of dozens of songs that you CANNOT get out of your head. (And yes, I am talking about Bruno…)
But in our conversation last month at a live podcast recording at my restaurant, Spanish Diner in New York City. I learned so many things about him that I never knew.
Did you know Lin-Manuel’s very first song was about Garbage Pail Kids?
Did you know that his signature dish is a pizza bagel?
And wait till you hear the song he composed on stage about my mom’s croquetas!
The night was also incredibly special for another reason. Thanks to generous donations from Coca-Cola, we raised $100,000 each for World Central Kitchen and for Hispanic Federation, an organization which is working tirelessly to help migrants in New York City.
Don’t go away because there’s a million things I haven’t said. Just you wait. Just you wait….
