One of the main arguments of my podcast, Longer Tables, is that we can get to know people better by understanding what they eat and why they eat it. Even when it turns out they don’t want to eat at all.
What, you say? Someone—YOU know someone—who doesn’t like to eat?
Meet Anderson Cooper.
Anderson sat down with me for my first live podcast taping, which we had in New York at my restaurant Spanish Diner. And almost immediately he confessed that he’s tried Soylent and thinks it’s a great idea…he hates trying new things…he loves spaghetti bolognese…and really loves to order off the kids menu.
But like I said, Anderson’s feelings about food reveals a lot. His mom, Gloria Vanderbilt, wasn’t a big cook, which might not be a surprise. In fact, there wasn’t much food in the house at all. As an adult, he travels the world reporting on war, disaster, once-in-a-lifetime occasions. He sticks to safe meals, he says, because he can’t afford to get sick while on the story.
Anyway, we talked about all of this and a lot more. Becoming a father at 53. His amazing podcast, “All There Is.” His new show on CNN “The Whole Story” and… swimming with sharks.
Tune in. And while you’re at it, subscribe on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
Oh I hope this interview was conducted before the CNN "town hall" of recent note and of Cooper's lack of condemnation of his employer. Can we separate the 'man from the actions'? Dunno. I look at your actions, Chef Andres, on the world and home front, doing good, speaking kindly and appropriately of others, and to highlight Cooper _now_ seems, well, not you.
