Hola people! How are you doing today?

Today I am thinking about family. Mine, of course, always, but also, what it means—the word “family” means many things to many people. For some, it’s their relatives. For others, their closest friends. We have work families. We even feel a connection to people we’ve never met in person, because we create a community through similar ideas, and similar hearts. I think of the Longer Tables community as that kind of family!

In the restaurant world, we share a “family meal” before shifts—a time where everyone, from the cooks in the kitchen to the general manager, the beverage team and the service staff, can come together and enjoy a moment. These are the times when we are more than just a team that works together to create an amazing experience for guests…we are of the same mind and the same heart—a different sort of family.

Today I want to share with you a recipe that Spaniards love to serve their families…natillas con galleta, a homey dessert of cinnamon-spiced custard with a cookie on top. And I also want to tell you about a new family meal that is already made for you…last week, at over a hundred Costco locations in the northeast, my team launched “Family Meal by José Andres,” ready-made dinners inspired by some of my favorite comfort foods and traditional Spanish recipes. The first “family meal” we’re sharing is braised beef in a sherry wine sauce, a super classic, traditional dish that many, many Spaniards grow up with. My team spent months perfecting the recipe to taste like it was made in a Spanish home kitchen, but also have it ready to eat in just a few minutes, so you can feed your whole family, quickly!

Get a box of braised beef and make it your own (I love it with mashed potatoes...maybe you'd like rice!)

And what would a family meal be without a dessert? Natillas con galleta is similar to a custard—not quite as thick as a crema Catalana, but infused with lemon and cinnamon. It’s so easy to make, and you can make it ahead of time, so when you want to get your family together, everyone can relax because dinner and dessert are already taken care of!

If you live near a Costco in the Northeast, head over to try it out, and let me know what you think…we’ll plan to release more Family Meal dishes, so I’m excited to hear if you try them!
